I have come to realize that Luceti has many strong fighters. My question is: where did you get your fighting experience from? Have you all trained by your own choice, or is it a part of your background?

You're the one who led me around Luceti when I first arrived, aren't you? Hello again.

It is both for me, too. I wanted to become strong so that I would be worth something... and I received training as a soldier.

It seems that military experience would be the obvious answer, doesn't it? Odd how that doesn't seem to apply to as many here as one might think.

For my part, I was a captain in one branch of our army back home.

Yes, it would seem to be the obvious answer. However, it seems that there are quite a few here who are strong without military experience, which is what drove my curiosity.

I was a general of my army back home. I've been in armies pretty much all my life... that's where my fighting experience comes from.

I was raised in an Academy from the time I was five and trained for battle. Got my first weapon at ten.

So you were trained for battle as a child... very impressive. Might I ask how old you are?

There's this place back where I'm from, a school sort of, where kids start training pretty young. Did that for a long time, liked it. But as far as being our choice goes or not? It's ...both.

If your parents want you in the program - you have to do it. But if they don't...well, I didn't know any kids who wanted to learn how to fight verses learning academic crap.

Ah... so you were raised with a fighting lifestyle. Do you regret having spent your life in such a fashion?

From the moment I was born I was evaluated for my fighting power, and from everyday on when I was able I trained endlessly, going out on combat assignments to other planets even at a young age.

1) Privately trained in martial arts for recreation and discipline as a child. Then by a 'specialist' mercenary group. Then the military when I was hired out by the previous group to them for that specialty.

2) The childhood training was entirely by choice. The other two by necessity for survival in my chosen career.

3) Part of my background and job.

I was a guardian in my past life as well. This time, when I awakened my power as a soldier again, I also remembered the training I learned back then.

[She pauses briefly, as though unsure of precisely how to explain what she wants to try to say next.]

It was like a memory held by the body instead of knowing it in my mind.

Among my people, those who do not learn combat will ultimately perish. The desert does not favor the weak as it does in other lands.

So you could say you are a product of your environment. In a way, many of us are, but it seems that this applies especially so to you.

No. It was just a place we learned how to fight for -- [Okay. Fine. This spiel annoys the crap out of Cato but - he's heard it probably a dozen times already on a yearly basis. It lost it's novelty a long time ago.]

There was a war a long time ago where I come from. Some districts rebelled against the leaders, the Capitol, and fought them - got their asses kicked. Hard. A lot of people died and the people in charge decided that they'd hold this ... thing called the Hunger Games. They'd collect 23 kids from all over and put us in an arena to fight to the death. Supposed to keep the rest of the districts under their thumb.

My district decided to train it's kids how to fight -- how to kill. It usually worked. We usually won.

So, yeah, we had a choice. But it was stupid to say no. Really stupid.

You are yet another person whose training has been driven by war. I do wonder why this Capitol would demand children as tribute, but I've seen enough young warriors in my time to know that even the youngest may have potential.

I think it was to keep the districts in line. No one wanted another rebellion, so ... use the kids.

So the children are like hostages, in a way? Hmm. I would find that objectionable, but as I've said, I've seen many competent young soldiers.
